Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has issued a stern warning to its players, stating that anyone who quits the ongoing tour of Pakistan midway will face a two-year suspension from international cricket.
Government assures full security for visiting team
Sources within the SLC revealed that several Sri Lankan players had requested permission to return home before the completion of the tour, citing security concerns. In response, Pakistanโs Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held an urgent meeting with the Sri Lankan High Commissioner and the visiting teamโs manager to address their reservations.
Naqvi assured the delegation of foolproof security arrangements, emphasizing that the safety of the visiting team was Pakistanโs top priority. He also reaffirmed that all possible measures had been taken to ensure a smooth and secure series.
SLC directs players to finish the tour
Following the high-level discussions, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board instructed all players to continue and complete the tour as scheduled. Officials stressed that walking out midway would not only breach contractual obligations but also damage bilateral cricket relations.
The second One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will take place in Rawalpindi tomorrow, with strict security protocols in place.
Meanwhile, Pakistan is also preparing to host a tri-nation series featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe, further underscoring the countryโs growing success in bringing international cricket back to its grounds.
