The first group of Sri Lankan cricketers has arrived in Islamabad ahead of the three-match T20 International series against Pakistan.
A 13-member contingent reached the federal capital on Sunday night. The group included eight players from Sri Lanka’s T20I squad and five members of the team management.
T20I captain Kusal Mendis led the players arriving in the first group. Former captain Dasun Shanaka, spinner Maheesh Theekshana, fast bowler Eshan Malinga, Kamindu Mendis, Lahiru Udara, Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Dunith Wellalage were also part of the contingent.
The remaining members of the Sri Lankan squad are scheduled to arrive in Pakistan in phases. The head coach, two players and two officials are expected to reach Islamabad on Monday, while the final five squad members are due to arrive on Tuesday.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka will face each other in three T20Is at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The opening match will take place on October 9, followed by the second game on October 11 and the third on October 13.
The T20I series will mark the beginning of Sri Lanka’s multi-format tour of Pakistan. The visitors will later participate in an ODI tri-series involving Pakistan and England before playing two Test matches against Pakistan.
