Sri Lanka Women chased Pakistan’s 178-run target to secure an eight-wicket victory in the Asian Games 2026 semi-final. The match took place at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, on Sunday, with Sri Lanka reaching 178-2 in 17.5 overs.
Captain Chamari Athapaththu led the chase with an unbeaten 83 from 50 balls. She struck seven fours and six sixes while maintaining an impressive strike rate of 166.
Sri Lanka Dominate Successful Run Chase
Hasini Perera supported Athapaththu with 42 from 26 deliveries, hitting three fours and three sixes. The pair added 90 runs for the second wicket, placing Sri Lanka firmly in control.
Harshitha Samarawickrama then joined Athapaththu and remained unbeaten on 17 from 12 balls. She struck two boundaries as Sri Lanka completed the chase with 13 balls remaining.
Earlier, Pakistan posted 177-4 after Sri Lanka asked them to bat first. Ayesha Zafar top-scored with 71 from 40 balls, while Shawaal Zulfiqar contributed 54 from 50 deliveries.
Pakistan Secure Chance for Bronze Medal
Fatima Sana added an unbeaten 20 from 12 balls to help Pakistan set a competitive total. However, Sri Lanka’s batters maintained control throughout their successful chase.
Pakistan’s bowlers managed two breakthroughs during the innings. Fatima Sana dismissed Dulani, while Nashra Sandhu removed Perera after Umm-e-Hani completed the catch.
The victory sends Sri Lanka into Tuesday’s gold-medal match at the Asian Games. Meanwhile, Pakistan will now compete for the bronze medal.
The result also extended Sri Lanka’s recent success against Pakistan. Sri Lanka had previously defeated Pakistan by four wickets in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup semi-final earlier this month in Dubai.
