LAHORE: Zaka Ashraf, the Head of the Management Committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), met with Wahab Riaz, the Sports Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister, to discuss security arrangements for the upcoming Asia Cup. The Punjab Government assured the PCB that comprehensive security measures would be implemented for all participating teams in the Asia Cup.
During the tenure of Najam Sethi, there were disagreements between the PCB and the Punjab government. However, following this meeting, the PCB expressed satisfaction with the Provincial Government’s stance.
Representatives from the Water And Sanitation Agency (WASA) also attended the meeting. They provided assurance that sanitation services would be adequately maintained throughout the Asia Cup.
Pakistan will host four matches of the Asia Cup, with the tournament’s opening match on August 30th in Multan. Pakistan will play against Nepal on the inaugural day. The remaining three matches will be held in Lahore, including a game from the Super Four round. Other Super Four matches are planned to take place in Sri Lanka.
Afghanistan’s team is also slated to compete in two matches in Lahore, including matchups against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Pakistan requested foolproof security for its cricket team during the upcoming 50-over World Cup set to take place in India in October. The Pakistani Foreign Office (FO) emphasized that India is responsible for providing comprehensive security to the Pakistan cricket team. The FO has requested an environment free from fear and harassment.
The announcement to send the national cricket team to India for the World Cup was made last week. The high-profile encounter between India and Pakistan will be hosted in Ahmedabad on 15 October. The cricket rivalry between the two countries is intensified due to long-standing political tensions, and matches between them are closely watched by fans around the world.
Pakistan’s cricket captain, Babar Azam, emphasized that their attention is not solely on the match against India. Instead, their aim is to excel against all teams in order to advance to the World Cup final. The tickets for the Pakistan-India match are set to go on sale on September 3.
