LAHORE: Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is expected to take over as the head coach of the national cricket team, citing sources on Saturday.
His appointment comes as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seeks to stabilise the team following their disappointing performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
According to insiders, Saqlain Mushtaq has agreed to the role after discussions with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. He is likely to assume his responsibilities ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming tour of New Zealand, where the team is set to play five T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals from March 16 to April 5.
The PCB is expected to make an official announcement soon, ensuring that the coaching staff is in place before the squad departs for New Zealand on March 12.
This will not be Saqlain’s first stint as Pakistan’s head coach. He previously served in the role but was hesitant to return before the Champions Trophy, reportedly due to concerns over team selection.
