Punjab University has achieved a historic triumph at the Asian Rowing Indoor Championship, marking a significant milestone in its sporting history. For the first time, the university secured a total of nine medals, including five gold, three silver, and one bronze, showcasing an exceptional performance on the international stage.
Among the standout performers was Abdul Rahman from the PU Economics department. Rahman earned one gold and one silver medal, and was honored as the best-time player of the championship. Zarak Khan from Hailey College also excelled, winning two gold medals. Gohar Ayub from the Sports Sciences department added to the university’s medal tally with one gold and one silver. Iqra, also from Sports Sciences, achieved one silver and one bronze medal. The university further distinguished itself by clinching two gold medals in the team events.
The success of these athletes has been celebrated by the Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, Dr. Khalid Mehmood. Dr. Mehmood praised the players for their outstanding achievements, noting that their success has brought pride to the university, the nation, and the entire country. He highlighted the significant support provided to the players, despite financial constraints. The Vice Chancellor allocated Rs 15 lakh to ensure the university’s participation in the championship, reflecting his commitment to supporting student-athletes and fostering their development.
