LAHORE: On Friday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced changes to the national selection committee, welcoming several former cricketers to the team.
The PCB confirmed the inclusion of notable figures, including former fast bowler Aqib Javed, ex-captain Azhar Ali, and Aleem Dar, a respected former International Cricket Council (ICC) umpire and first-class cricketer.
In addition, Hassan Cheema has been appointed as a new member, while right-handed batter Asad Shafiq retains his position on the committee.
Sources indicate that Javed will focus on overseeing key committee matters, while Ali is assigned to youth development initiatives. Cheema will serve as the data analyst for the selection team, bringing a statistical approach to the process.
This restructuring follows the recent resignation of former selector Muhammad Yousuf, who stepped down two weeks ago. In a statement on X, Yousuf expressed his gratitude, stating, “I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team for personal reasons. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket.”
The previous selection committee included the captain, head coach, Shafiq, and five non-voting members. The PCB has yet to announce the roles of the captain, head coach, and the five non-voting members in the revamped committee, which is expected in the coming week.
These changes reflect the PCB’s commitment to enhancing its selection process and ensuring that the national team is well-prepared for upcoming challenges.
As the new committee members step into their roles, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how their experience and insights influence Pakistan cricket’s future direction.
