Pakistani-Origin Bowler Bilal Khan Breaks Shaheen Afridi’s ODI Record

Bilal Khan

Pakistani-origin Omani pacer Bilal Khan has etched his name into cricketing history by becoming the fastest seamer to claim 100 One-Day International (ODI) wickets.

Khan achieved this remarkable feat during Oman’s ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 match against Namibia. In a standout performance, he took three wickets, finishing with impressive figures of 3/50 in his 10 overs.

Khan’s exceptional bowling played a pivotal role in restricting Namibia to a total of 196/9 after their 50 overs. His ability to make crucial breakthroughs under pressure showcased his skill and impact on the game.

By surpassing Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi, who previously held the record, Khan has not only set a new benchmark but also solidified his place among the elite fast bowlers in international cricket.

Bilal Khan’s achievement is a testament to his dedication and talent, highlighting the growing influence of players from associate nations on the global stage.

His record-setting performance is a proud moment for Oman cricket and serves as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers in the region.

Although Khan is the fastest seamer to reach this milestone, the overall record for the fastest bowler to 100 ODI wickets is held by Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who accomplished it in just 42 matches. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan also reached this milestone in fewer games than Bilal Khan.

Since making his ODI debut in April 2019, Khan has consistently demonstrated his prowess on the field.

He has achieved four five-wicket hauls in ODIs and has an impressive record in the 20-over format as well, with 110 wickets in 78 games at an economy rate of 6.78.

  • Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan) – 51 matches
  • Mitchell Starc (Australia) – 52 matches
  • Shane Bond (New Zealand) – 54 matches

Khan’s achievement is a testament to his skill and dedication, marking a significant milestone in his career and adding a new chapter to Oman’s cricketing history.
