Multiple fitness concerns and poor performance at the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022 have made it difficult for the national selection committee to announce the team for the England series and the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Even though the deadline for submitting teams to the World Cup is September 15, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) still has a few days to finalize the roster for the seven-match series.
The News reports that on Tuesday, captain Babar Azam, head coach Saqlain Mushtaq, and chief selector Mohammad Wasim met to discuss the upcoming international matches and will meet again over the next two days to finalize the team’s lineup.
Pakistan may seek an extension from the International Cricket Council (ICC) if it is unable to finalize the World Cup team roster by the ICC-mandated date.
No request for a deadline extension has been made to the ICC as of yet, but doing so is an option if the selectors so choose.
Historically, the ICC has occasionally extended the deadline for a member country to submit names for formal occasions.
A board insider remarked, “I assume the situation would get clear within the next two days.”
