Former England cricketer turned commentator, Nasser Hussain, surprised fans with his views on the Pakistan Cricket Team’s chances in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
Pakistan is set to kick off their campaign on October 6th against the Netherlands, followed by matches against Sri Lanka and host India on October 10 and 14, respectively. Their fixtures also include encounters with Australia and Afghanistan on November 20 and 22, facing South Africa on October 27, and playing against Bangladesh on October 31. They will square off against New Zealand and defending champions England on November 4 and 11, respectively.
Nasser Hussain expressed his thoughts on Pakistan’s prospects, suggesting that they might lose their opening game but would make a comeback during the tournament. He said, “I think they [Pakistan] are a very good tournament side. They have got the Netherlands up in the first game; they could lose that. That is Pakistan for you. But then they’ll go on a run. You look at the last World T20. They were out of it, and then suddenly they were in the final. They are mercurial because that is the brand and style of cricket they play. Pakistanis are an incredibly watchable side.”
Hussain emphasized that Pakistan could be a formidable team to face if they manage to post above-par scores in the competition. He added, “If they get an above-par score against you, any team in the World Cup, you are in trouble.”
Babar Azam’s team didn’t have an ideal start to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, losing their first warm-up match to New Zealand by five wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Green Shirts will play Australia in their second and final practice match on October 3 at the same venue.
