Jay Shah to Assume ICC Chairmanship on December 1
On Monday, Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was elected unopposed as the president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). He is set to officially take over the role of ICC Chairman on December 1, following the conclusion of Greg Barclay’s term.
In his acceptance speech, Shah expressed his enthusiasm for expanding cricket’s global presence and boosting its popularity. He highlighted the opportunity presented by cricket’s inclusion in the LA 2028 Olympics as a key moment for the sport’s development on the international stage.
“I am honored by the nomination to serve as the Chair of the International Cricket Council,” Shah said. He pledged to work closely with the ICC team and member nations to further the sport’s globalization efforts.
Shah also emphasized the importance of balancing various formats of the game, advancing technology, and introducing ICC’s flagship events to new markets worldwide.
“Our aim is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before,” he concluded.
