ISLAMABAD: The caretaker federal cabinet has granted approval for the deployment of the army and Rangers to ensure the security of the upcoming Asia Cup cricket tournament. Furthermore, special forces will be on standby to ensure the tournament’s security, which is scheduled to begin on August 30.
The cabinet gave its consent to a summary presented by the Interior Ministry concerning the security arrangements for the competition. Starting from August 27 and continuing until September 6, the Pakistan Army and Punjab Rangers will be deployed to ensure security, according to government sources.
The Punjab Rangers will fulfill the role of a Quick Response Force (QRF), as reported by these sources. The Pakistan Army’s deployment will take place in a third-tier QRF mode. Additionally, special forces will be on standby, ready to respond if needed, to guarantee the security of the Asia Cup.
The Punjab provincial government had initially requested the Interior Ministry to arrange for the deployment of army and Rangers personnel.
As per the current schedule, one match of the Asia Cup tournament is planned in Multan. Three matches are set to take place at the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
