Babar Azam on verge of breaking Virat Kohli’s major record in T20I

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s skipper throughout all forms, is about to surpass another Virat Kohli T20I record.

He needs 97 runs to pass Paul Stirling, Martin Guptill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma as the sixth player with 3000 runs in the shortest format.

The prolific run-getter for Pakistan will play against England in the fifth T20I on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Babar has a chance to become the fastest hitter to score 3,000 runs in the game’s shortest version throughout the match.

The 27-year-old would set a record for the fastest batter to reach the milestone in the slam-bang version if he managed to score those runs in the following two innings.

Currently, the former captain of India is the quickest batter to achieve the milestone. It took Kohli 81 innings to reach the milestone. When England toured India in 2021, he smashed the previous record.

The 27-year-old bats for the Men in Green and has scored 2,939 runs in 79 innings. So, in order to defeat Kohli, Babar must score 61 runs in the game.

In the past, Babar, who is now playing for Pakistan against England, became the second-fastest batsman to 8,000 T20 runs.
