Pakistan’s cricket team captain, Babar Azam, conceded on Saturday that the team’s bowling performance fell short, following their defeat to England.
Azam expressed disappointment in the dressing room and revealed that meetings would be conducted to analyze both the positive and negative aspects of the team’s entire World Cup campaign.
Acknowledging a rough patch before the match, Azam admitted on Friday that he was facing challenges in the World Cup. Addressing the press conference ahead of the England clash, he commented on criticisms regarding his playing style, stating, “It has been said about me that I play sluggishly. But I always play according to the situation.”
Discussing the playing conditions in India, Azam mentioned, “The current players of the team arrived in India for the first time. We had no idea about the conditions. But we tried to adjust to the playing conditions and perform well.” Emphasizing that he did not prioritize individual performances, Azam stated, “I had a goal to win matches for Pakistan through my batting.”
Regarding his future role as the team’s captain, Azam indicated, “As of now, I am not thinking about the future of spearheading the team. I will decide about the future of my captaincy after wrapping up the World Cup campaign and returning to Pakistan.” He clarified, “The coaching staff’s decision is involved in terms of selecting the team ahead of the matches.”
