A devastating road accident in Lahore claimed the lives of three members of a family on Thursday morning. A speeding 22-wheeler trailer crushed their car at a traffic signal in the Garhi Shahu area.
The accident occurred on Allama Iqbal Road. The car had stopped at the signal when the heavy vehicle ran over it, leaving the occupants trapped inside.
Rescue Teams Cut Through Wreckage
Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene and began recovery operations. The trailer’s weight had severely damaged the car, making it difficult to reach the victims. Rescuers cut through parts of the wrecked vehicle to recover the bodies. They later transferred all three victims to the morgue.
Police identified the deceased as Muhammad Asim, his wife Huma Asim, and their son Talha Asim. The family lived in Shah Jamal Colony in Lahore’s Ichhra area.
Police Seek Action Against Those Responsible
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi took notice of the crash and requested a report. He expressed grief over the loss of three family members.
Shirazi also directed officials to use available resources to apprehend the trailer driver and hold those responsible accountable. He said authorities would intensify action against reckless and negligent drivers.
Police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. The incident has renewed concerns about road safety and the risks posed by speeding heavy vehicles in urban areas.
Other Fatal Accidents Reported
Two other fatal road accidents were also reported in the region. A dumper truck struck and killed a motorcyclist near Barkat Market in Lahore’s Garden Town area. Police identified the motorcyclist as 42-year-old Hadayat. The dumper driver reportedly fled the scene.
Separately, a collision between a tractor and a motorcycle on Changa Manga Road in Pattoki claimed another life. Authorities had not identified that victim at the time of reporting.
