Claims circulating online remain unverified as no official data has been released to support figures
ISLAMABAD: A social media post circulating on X has generated discussion after sharing claims about Pakistani students in the United Kingdom and the reasons cited in asylum applications.
The post, shared by user Khurram Iqbal, attributed remarks to analyst Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa. It alleged that thousands of Pakistani students who travelled to the UK on legal study visas later sought asylum, claiming they would face persecution if they returned to Pakistan.
However, the post did not cite any official government statistics, court records or publicly available evidence to support the figures or assertions it contained.
No official confirmation
As of now, neither the UK Home Office nor Pakistani authorities have publicly confirmed the statistics mentioned in the social media post. Likewise, no official data has been released verifying the number of Pakistani students who allegedly applied for asylum or the grounds on which any applications may have been approved.
Under UK law, asylum applications are assessed individually based on evidence presented by each applicant and applicable domestic and international legal standards. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.
Experts urge caution
Analysts and media observers have cautioned against treating unverified social media claims as established fact, particularly when they concern asylum seekers or protected groups. They note that immigration and asylum statistics should be interpreted using official government data and credible sources.
Until relevant authorities publish verified information or the claims are independently substantiated, the figures and allegations contained in the social media post should be regarded as unverified. Readers are encouraged to rely on official statements and documented evidence when assessing such claims.
