KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs has intercepted an attempt to smuggle goods worth Rs140 million through misdeclaration at Karachi’s Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT), officials confirmed on Friday.
A senior official said the consignment, imported under the Export Facilitation Scheme (EFS), was falsely declared as aluminium foil scrap.
However, a detailed inspection revealed the container was packed with high-value undeclared items. Among the seized goods were e-cigarettes, vape liquids, medical equipment and lithium batteries.
The 40-foot container, originating from Malaysia, had been cleared via the Green Channel at QICT. Acting on a tip-off, Customs officials intercepted the container shortly after it exited the terminal.
Documentation listed the shipment as containing 81,950 kilograms of aluminium foil, but inspection uncovered clear violations of EFS regulations.
“The consignment was in blatant breach of EFS rules,” Naqvi stated.
A case has been registered against the importing company, M/s Domestic Industries, and the smuggled goods have been confiscated. Further investigations are currently underway.
