A flower seller died and his young son suffered critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
The victims were reportedly sleeping on a footpath in the Bukhari area after a long day of work. However, a speeding Vigo pickup allegedly mounted the footpath and ran them over before fleeing.
Driver Flees After Fatal Crash
According to rescue officials, the father died at the scene. Meanwhile, his son sustained critical injuries in the collision.
Rescue teams shifted both victims to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The deceased underwent medico-legal formalities, while doctors continued treating the injured child.
Moreover, rescue sources claimed the driver abandoned the victim’s body and the injured child near Kala Pul before escaping. The suspect reportedly left the scene without providing any assistance.
Police Launch Investigation
Police reached the area after receiving information about the incident. They have launched an investigation to identify the vehicle and the driver involved.
Furthermore, authorities are collecting CCTV footage from nearby locations. Investigators hope the recordings will help trace the suspect responsible for the fatal crash.
The incident has renewed concerns about reckless driving and hit-and-run cases in Karachi. Additionally, it has highlighted the hardships faced by many daily wage workers who sleep on pavements after work.
