In a stunning testament to smartphone durability, a UK skydiver accidentally dropped his iPhone 13 Pro Max from 14,000 feet—only to find it later, fully intact and functioning flawlessly.
Casey Flay, a 37-year-old engineer and wingsuit enthusiast from Devon, had placed the phone in an open front pocket before his jump last month. Seconds after leaping from the plane, his GoPro helmet cam captured the moment the phone was swept away by the wind.
“At first, I thought I must have left it on the plane,” Flay recalled. But using Apple’s Find My iPhone, he tracked the device to a wooded area nearly four miles from his landing site.
After a 30-minute hike through forest terrain, Flay found the phone lying on the ground—completely undamaged. Even more remarkably, a side button that had been stuck for years due to a previous drink spill had somehow begun working again. “There wasn’t a scratch on it. It’s unbelievable,” he said.
The story quickly gained attention online, adding to a growing number of viral tales showcasing the resilience of iPhones—whether dropped from planes, submerged in water, or lost in extreme environments. For Apple, it’s another unexpected endorsement of the iPhone’s build quality and durability.
