ISLAMABAD: Six children, including five girls, died when the roof of their house collapsed in the mountainous district of Shangla in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late Monday night, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Alpuri tehsil. Rescue teams and local residents rushed to the site after receiving information about the collapse. They recovered the bodies and shifted them to a nearby hospital.
A young girl also sustained injuries in the incident. Authorities moved her to a hospital for medical treatment, where she remains under care.
Police identified the deceased children as Nazira, Sameera, Rizwan, Nayab, Haya Noor, and Umera. All the victims were between five and 14 years of age.
Officials said the childrenโs father had passed away some time ago, and the family lived in a non-cemented house that could not withstand structural pressure.
Local authorities said poor housing conditions in remote areas often increase the risk of such tragedies, especially during adverse weather conditions.
In a similar incident in November 2025, a roof collapsed during funeral prayers in Lari Peer Khana, also in Shangla. Several people sustained injuries when the structure gave way during the gathering.
Authorities have called for improved housing safety measures in vulnerable regions to prevent further loss of life.
