The Sindh government will provide free solar systems to 275,000 families across low-income and remote areas of the province.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the initiative while speaking to the media. Moreover, he said the project aims to ensure affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly electricity for deserving households.
Rs. 18.2 Billion Project Underway
Memon said the Rs. 18.2 billion project is being implemented on the instructions of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He added that the initiative aims to provide meaningful relief to poor families facing energy challenges.
Furthermore, the government will distribute solar systems to 132,000 families in off-grid areas. Another 143,000 families living in on-grid areas will also receive the systems.
Each selected family will receive a complete solar kit. The package includes a 180-watt solar panel, a battery, a fan, and LED lights to meet basic electricity needs.
Distribution Target Set For 2027
Memon said the government has already distributed more than 15,000 solar kits. Meanwhile, authorities aim to complete distribution to all 275,000 families by June 2027.
He added that the project offers more than electricity for underserved communities. Instead, it provides a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution for low-income households.
According to Memon, the initiative will help improve living standards while reducing energy costs for thousands of families across Sindh.
