KARACHI: Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed demanded an apology from the family of the prime accused in the alleged assault on Karachi University professor Dr Arif Khan Saqi.
Sadia said police had confiscated a double-cabin vehicle used during the tragic incident near Safora Chowrangi.
She said police had also sealed a hotel connected to the incident, where Professor Saqi was held captive.
Javed condemned the assault and stressed that society could not progress without respecting teachers and educators.
“As a Karachi University graduate, I feel ashamed that a teacher was assaulted,” she said, describing the incident as a reflection of societal upbringing.
Meanwhile, Javed said authorities would take action against everyone responsible because nobody remained above the law.
According to the spokesperson, the prime accused, Konain Shah, is the son of Grand Democratic Alliance leader Ali Gohar Shah. She added that police had nominated Konain Shah in the case and continued efforts to arrest him.
Furthermore, Javed urged the accused and his family to come forward and apologise to Professor Saqi.
She said police had conducted several raids while searching for Konain Shah, who remained at large.
Two security guards arrested
Meanwhile, police arrested two security guards allegedly involved in the assault on the university professor.
Police said they nominated Konain Shah, his gunman and several other suspects in the case registered over the alleged torture.
Following the registration of the FIR, the Sachal police station SHO formed a team to arrest the suspects.
During the operation, police detained two guards allegedly linked to the incident.
Authorities identified the arrested suspects as Gul Sher and Taj Muhammad.
The investigation remains underway as police continue efforts to apprehend the prime accused and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and detention.
Officials have also pledged to pursue legal action against those found responsible for the incident.
