KARACHI: The Sindh government has appointed Azad Khan as the new Additional Inspector General of Police for Karachi as part of a wide-ranging reshuffle in the provincial police hierarchy. The decision followed the appointment of Javed Alam Odho as Inspector General of Police Sindh, marking a fresh phase in the provinceโs law enforcement leadership.
Azad Khan, who previously served as Additional Inspector General in the Counter Terrorism Department, assumed the Karachi AIG post after Odho formally took charge as the provincial police chief on Thursday. According to official notifications, the reshuffle aims to strengthen operational efficiency and improve policing outcomes across Sindh.
Meanwhile, the government transferred Additional IG Zulfiqar Larik from the Special Branch to the Counter Terrorism Department. Officials said the move would reinforce counterterrorism efforts amid evolving security challenges. At the same time, Sharjeel Kharral was posted as Additional IG Operations Sindh, while Iqbal Dara received additional charge of the same position to ensure continuity in operations.
Furthermore, the government appointed Parvaiz Chandio as Deputy Inspector General Establishment. Faisal Abdullah Chachar took charge as DIG Mirpurkhas, reflecting adjustments at the regional command level. In another significant development, DIG Nasir Aftab was assigned additional charge as DIG Sukkur to oversee policing in the area.
The reshuffle came shortly after Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met the newly appointed IGP and congratulated him on assuming office. During the meeting, the chief minister emphasized the need for visible improvements in law and order, particularly in Karachi.
CM Murad instructed the police leadership to intensify efforts against street crime, stating that rising incidents directly undermine public confidence and citizensโ sense of security. Moreover, he directed the new IGP to give top priority to maintaining peace across the province.
He also stressed that ongoing operations against criminal elements in the katcha areas must continue without interruption. Consequently, the government expects the new police leadership to deliver stronger enforcement and measurable results in the coming months.
