KARACHI: Two public holidays have been announced _ one for the 25th of December and the other for the 26th of December. The December 25, 2025, holiday will be observed to mark Quaid-e-Azam Day while December 26 holidays will be for the Christmas celebrations.
Initially, the Sindh government has announced two public holidays, while other provinces are also expected to declare holidays next week.
The announcement applies to all provincial government institutions and bodies operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government.ย The Services, General Administration and Coordination Department issued the notification, confirming that government offices will remain closed to mark the dual significance of the day.
Departments and Institutions Covered
According to the notification, the holiday will be observed by all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils functioning under the Sindh governmentโs authority.
Official Circulation and Implementation
The provincial government has formally circulated copies of the notification to relevant federal and provincial departments to ensure effective implementation. These include the Establishment Division, the Board of Revenue Sindh, the Sindh High Court, the Accountant General Sindh, police authorities, administrative secretaries, commissioners and deputy commissioners.
Significance of December 25
December 25 holds national and religious importance in Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, who is widely revered for his leadership in the countryโs independence movement and the creation of the state in 1947.
The same day is also observed as Christmas by the Christian community acrossย Pakistan. Churchesย and Christian families mark the occasion with religious services, prayers and celebrations, making December 25 a symbol of religious harmony and coexistence.
The Sindh government advised citizens to plan their official work accordingly, as most provincial government offices will remain closed on December 25. Members of the public seeking services from essential departments have been urged to confirm operating hours in advance.
