The Sindh School Education Department has announced a public holiday for all educational institutions across the province on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat. The holiday will be observed on February 4, 2026, in both government and private schools.
A formal notification has been issued by the department, confirming that the decision applies uniformly to all public and private educational institutions operating under the provincial education framework. The move is intended to facilitate students, teachers, and staff in observing the religious occasion with due reverence.
Shab-e-Barat holds significant religious importance for Muslims and is observed on the 15th night of the Islamic month of Shaban. On this night, Muslims across Pakistan and around the world engage in special prayers, including Salat-ul Tasbeeh, seek forgiveness, and offer supplications in mosques and at home. Many also visit graveyards to pray for deceased family members.
Officials from the Sindh School Education Department stated that declaring a holiday allows families and communities to participate fully in religious observances without disruption to academic activities. The department emphasized its commitment to respecting religious and cultural traditions while ensuring timely communication to educational institutions.
School administrations have been advised to adjust their academic calendars accordingly and ensure that students and parents are informed of the holiday in advance. Normal academic activities are expected to resume following the observance.
The announcement has been welcomed by parents, teachers, and students, who view the decision as a considerate step toward accommodating religious practices within the education system.
Authorities have also urged the public to observe Shab-e-Barat with devotion, discipline, and respect for others, particularly in residential areas during late-night prayers.
The Sindh government reiterated that it will continue to issue timely notifications regarding holidays and other administrative matters to ensure smooth functioning of educational institutions across the province.
