A case has been registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 against a shopkeeper in Rawalpindi after a video showing a car being towed from a no-parking zone went viral. The case, filed under Section 21(1)(d) of the Act, marks the second such instance in the city.
The complaint was lodged by Traffic Warden Imran Sikandar at the Cantt Police Station. The details of the case reveal that the accused recorded a video of a car being towed for illegal parking and subsequently shared it on social media.
Authorities clarified that the vehicle was lawfully ticketed for being parked in a no-parking zone, with the car parked outside a shop. It is alleged that the shop owner filmed the incident and shared the footage to provoke public resentment against the traffic police.
Officials have stated that the incident qualifies as an offence under Section 21(1)(d) of PECA 2016, which addresses online harassment and the intentional spread of false information. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
