ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman has urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to call off its planned October 4 long march unconditionally, warning that such actions could increase violence rather than reduce it.
Speaking to the media after government-opposition talks, Rehman said Pakistan was facing a serious security challenge, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where attacks have killed civilians and security personnel.
She said terrorism remained a red line for the PPP and stressed that her party did not organise long marches for an individual. However, she declined to comment on PTI’s specific demands discussed during negotiations, saying the ongoing dialogue should be given time.
Rehman also urged both sides to protect the trust developing through the talks. She expressed hope that negotiations would continue and produce an agreement during the next round scheduled for Saturday.
The first round of government-opposition talks concluded on Friday, with both sides presenting their positions. The government delegation urged PTI to postpone or cancel its planned march, while the opposition presented its demands.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the discussions took place in a positive environment and that his party would consult its leadership before deciding its next course of action.
The negotiations come as political tensions remain high ahead of the October 4 protest, with the government seeking a political solution through dialogue.
