Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif landed in Kyrgyzstan for a three-day official visit on Monday focused on regional cooperation and Pakistan’s SCO leadership.
Kyrgyz Cabinet Chairman Adylbek Kasymaliev welcomed the Pakistani Prime Minister at Manas International Airport in Bishkek.
Shehbaz will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State meeting and the SCO Plus Summit during his visit.
The Prime Minister’s Office said he would present Pakistan’s position on regional and global issues at the summit.
Moreover, Shehbaz will assume Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026-27.
Ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Abdul Aleem Khan and Attaullah Tarar are accompanying the prime minister during the visit.
Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan discuss stronger ties
Meanwhile, Shehbaz will attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on Monday.
He will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders attending the SCO gatherings. The discussions will focus on regional developments and international issues.
On September 2, Shehbaz will meet Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to review bilateral relations.
The leaders will discuss trade, investment, energy, connectivity, education and tourism. They will also explore opportunities to strengthen people-to-people exchanges.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan share close relations based on history, faith and cultural links.
Around a dozen world leaders are expected in Bishkek as the SCO marks its 25th anniversary.
The organisation has 10 members, including Pakistan, China, Russia, India and Iran. Afghanistan and Mongolia hold observer status.
In 2027, Pakistan will be the host of the SCO Council of Heads of State summit in Islamabad.
