Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the launch of the Asan Khidmat Markaz in Islamabad, a citizen-focused initiative developed in collaboration with Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations (SAPSSI). The centre aims to centralize essential public services under one roof, making access easier, faster, and more transparent for citizens.
A new milestone in Pakistan-Azerbaijan friendship
During his meeting with SAPSSI Chairman Ulvi Mehdiyev, the Prime Minister described the project as a “new milestone in Pakistan-Azerbaijan friendship.” The announcement comes after Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Baku, where he witnessed the successful implementation of the Asan Khidmat model in Azerbaijan. Inspired by its efficiency, he directed Pakistani authorities to replicate the system in Islamabad with full Azerbaijani support.
Public service delivery under one roof
The Asan Khidmat Markaz will offer a wide range of government services at a single location, reducing bureaucratic delays and improving transparency. Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that appointments for the centre would be made on merit and through transparent procedures. He also instructed that the proposed Business Facilitation Centre be integrated with the project, ensuring both citizens and entrepreneurs benefit from seamless service delivery.
Driving digital transformation and cashless economy
The Prime Minister highlighted that the new initiative aligns with Pakistan’s vision of a cashless economy. By incorporating digital tools and transparent practices, the centre will modernize service delivery while promoting efficiency and accountability. Once launched in Islamabad, the project will serve as a model to be replicated in other cities across the country.
Strengthening bilateral ties with Azerbaijan
Expressing gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his government, Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged their technical expertise and support for the project. He said the partnership would not only improve public service delivery but also deepen economic cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Formal agreement signed
During the meeting, a formal agreement was signed between SAPSSI and Pakistan’s Ministry of IT and Telecom to establish the centre in Islamabad. Senior cabinet members, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Housing Minister Riaz Pirzada, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and IT Minister Shaza Fatima, were present at the signing ceremony.
Transforming governance through innovation
With the establishment of the Asan Khidmat Markaz, Pakistan is moving towards a citizen-centric governance model that prioritizes efficiency, accountability, and accessibility. By streamlining services and integrating technology, the project is expected to significantly reduce red tape and enhance public trust in government institutions.
The initiative represents a bold step toward digital transformation, while also reinforcing the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
