ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties candidate Shehbaz Sharif and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi have filed their nomination papers in the Parliament for the election of Prime Minister on Monday (April 11).
Both the leaders have filed their nomination after 174 members of the National Assembly voted out Imran Khan as Prime Minister on Saturday night during the no-trust move against Khan, setting a new precedent in the history of Parliament.
National Assembly members will elect the new leader of the House on Monday and the NA session will start at 2pm.

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi submitted four forms with the NA Secretariat, while PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, the joint opposition’s candidate for the post, filed 13 forms.
During the submission of the nomination papers, the PTI raised objections to Shehbaz’s nomination and subsequently a heated exchange of words took place between PTI’s Qureshi and PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal.

Awan said the PML-N president had cases pending against him and called for his papers to be rejected. The PTI’s objections were eventually rejected and the nomination papers for both candidates were accepted.
Meanwhile, PTI’s former ministers Fawad Chaudhry and Sheikh Rashid said that PTI MNAs will submit their resignations on Monday in case the House elected Shehbaz Sharif as new Prime Minister.
Media reports, nevertheless, said that most of the PTI MNAs are not in favour of giving resigns from the Parliament and they want to give tough time to the new government in the House and outside the National Assembly.
Earlier, PTI’s Kanwal Shauzab and Zain Qureshi arrived at Parliament House today to collect nomination papers on Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s behalf.
Speaking to the media, Shauzab said that the papers would be submitted after consulting with the party’s core committee.
The NA Secretariat had initially announced that 2pm would be the deadline for submitting the nomination papers for the election of the prime minister and the leader of the house while the scrutiny process would begin at 3pm.
