Sharjah has raised the minimum decent-living income for government employees to AED20,000 per month as part of a major financial support package.
The measures will also increase assistance for thousands of families, government retirees and citizens who retired from organisations outside the Sharjah government.
The package was approved by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
The new measures will take effect from September.
AED1.187 Billion Package to Benefit Thousands
The government support package carries an annual cost of more than AED1.187 billion.
According to the announcement, around 17,776 government employees will benefit from the measures.
Financial support will also increase for 6,652 families receiving social assistance.
The package covers 2,251 Sharjah government retirees as well as 5,300 citizens who retired from organisations outside the Sharjah government.
The measures are aimed at strengthening household financial stability and improving living standards for citizens facing rising costs.
No Employee to Be Left Without an Increase
Speaking during Sharjah’s Direct Line programme, Sheikh Sultan said the government had prioritised citizens considered most in need.
He also indicated that the authorities were reviewing possible salary increases for employees who are already receiving higher incomes.
He stressed that the salary review would not exclude higher-paid government employees.
“No employee will be left without a salary increase, including those on high salaries,” he said.
The approach means the salary adjustments will extend across different income groups rather than being limited only to employees on lower wages.
Sharjah Ruler Advises Citizens to Save
Alongside announcing the financial measures, Sheikh Sultan urged citizens to manage their finances carefully.
He advised people to avoid unnecessary borrowing and save money whenever possible.
He noted that rising prices have increased pressure on household budgets and made it more difficult for families to manage their expenses.
The latest package therefore combines higher government incomes with increased social support for families and retirees.
The measures are expected to provide additional financial relief to thousands of Sharjah citizens from September while supporting the emirate’s broader efforts to improve living standards.
