PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz unveiled several development promises for Azad Jammu and Kashmir. However, their pre-election announcements drew sharp criticism from coalition partner PPP.
The father-daughter duo addressed a large public gathering in Mirpur on Friday. They campaigned for party candidates before electioneering concluded for the Mirpur division polls.
Both leaders highlighted their Kashmiri roots during the rally. Moreover, they pledged infrastructure upgrades and expanded public welfare across AJK.
Nawaz Sharif described Kashmir as his first home and recalled his emotional connection with the region. He promised to transform Mirpur and the wider territory through future development initiatives.
Nawaz Announces Infrastructure And Welfare Projects
Nawaz Sharif promised an international airport for Mirpur if approved. He also pledged to revive the long-delayed Mansehra-Muzaffarabad-Mirpur motorway project.
Additionally, he announced new schools, colleges, universities, and better-equipped hospitals across AJK. Residents would benefit from improved healthcare facilities closer to home.
He also promised 10 Hospitals on Wheels and 10 electric green buses. Furthermore, he pledged to dualise the Kotli-Nakyal Road and construct key mountain tunnels.
During his speech, Nawaz made remarks referencing PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. Nevertheless, he urged political parties to avoid violence despite electoral competition.
PPP Rejects Remarks And Election Promises
PPP leaders strongly criticised Nawaz Sharif’s statements after the rally. They described his remarks as frivolous and rejected the pre-election promises.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz defended the party’s development agenda. She argued AJK needs stronger infrastructure, better governance, and expanded welfare programmes.
Maryam maintained the region possesses sufficient resources for progress. Therefore, she said effective leadership remains the key to sustainable development.
