RIO DE JANEIRO: Colombian singer Shakira delivered a high energy free concert at Copacabana Beach on Saturday night, attracting an estimated two million fans, city officials said.
Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere confirmed the massive turnout, calling the event historic. Similarly, the concert echoed previous large scale performances by Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga last year, both of which drew huge beachfront audiences.
Although the show started more than an hour late, shortly after 11 p.m., the delay did not dampen the crowd’s excitement. Instead, anticipation grew as fans filled the iconic shoreline, cheering loudly when the performance finally began.
Meanwhile, drones lit up the night sky with a glowing message reading “I love you Brazil” in Portuguese, adding a dramatic visual element. During the show, Shakira reflected on her deep connection with Brazil, recalling her first visit nearly three decades ago.
She then performed a series of global hits, including Hips Don’t Lie, La Tortura, and La Bicicleta, each met with enthusiastic singalongs. Furthermore, the crowd remained fully engaged throughout the set, dancing across the sand.
Shakira closed the concert with BZRP Music Sessions #53/66, a viral track widely associated with her past relationship with Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué. Consequently, the performance resonated strongly with fans.
Afterward, Cavaliere praised the event on social media, stating that Shakira had made history in Rio. He also referenced her famous She Wolf persona, highlighting her lasting global influence. Ultimately, the concert reinforced her enduring popularity and Brazil’s reputation for hosting massive live music events.
