ISLAMABAD: Pakistani actor Shahood Alvi has clarified his recent remarks about wives’ hygiene and appearance, saying that comments from a television morning show were taken out of context and do not represent his personal views about women.
Alvi recently faced criticism after clips from the programme circulated on social media. During the discussion, he spoke about how some husbands perceive their wives, suggesting that women who spend most of their time in the kitchen may carry the smell of ingredients such as garlic and ginger, while working women may make more effort to dress well and use perfume.
Shahood Alvi Says Viral Clips Misrepresented His Views
Responding to the backlash, Alvi said the viral clips failed to show the complete discussion. He said his remarks were part of a broader conversation about the attitudes and expectations held by many men in society.
According to the actor, the discussion began when a woman called the live show and asked why her husband did not pay attention to her and spent most of his time using his phone.
Alvi explained that the panellists were discussing the mindset of husbands and the expectations commonly placed on women rather than expressing their own personal beliefs.
He said the narrative being shared online did not accurately reflect what he had said or believed. Alvi also criticised the practice of circulating short, selective clips for views, arguing that such content can create a misleading impression and damage a person’s reputation.
Actor Highlights Support for Women and Family
Shahood Alvi also referred to his own family life while responding to the controversy. He said he believes in supporting strong, confident and independent women and has always encouraged his wife and daughters.
The actor added that he has provided his wife with household support and respects her contributions to the family.
Several celebrities and fans came forward to support Alvi following his clarification. Actress Zhalay Sarhadi defended the actor in the comments, saying that people who know him understand his character and views.
Alvi’s sister also expressed her support, describing him as a caring and supportive brother.
While the actor has offered his explanation and rejected the interpretation of his viral remarks, the controversy has revived a wider debate about marriage, gender roles and the expectations placed on women who manage households.
The incident also highlights how short social media clips can sometimes remove comments from their original context, creating controversy and shaping public perceptions.
