ISLAMABAD: Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has voiced criticism of the past Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government’s performance, stating that there is a need for a new political party in the country.
During a recent appearance on a local TV talk show, PML-N leader Abbasi criticized both the previous coalition government led by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and the current PTI-led government.

Abbasi highlighted the lack of swift decision-making in the Shehbaz-led government and stated that the PTI government failed to address the public’s concerns effectively. However, he also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the PDM-led government, acknowledging that his party had not taken meaningful steps to resolve the ongoing issues.
Abbasi emphasized the need for a new political party in the current political landscape. While criticizing the PDM government, he suggested that if the former army chief, General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa, had been perceived as an obstacle to their rule, the past rulers should have stepped down. He pointed out that the PDM government had a significant amount of time to deliver results during the eight to nine months following General Bajwa’s retirement.
Regarding the PTI government’s tenure, Abbasi criticized the lack of financial investment in public projects, and he also noted that the PDM government failed to make necessary decisions. He expressed concern about the decision by former Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial to restore the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to its original form, which he believed would pose challenges for future governments.
Abbasi expressed disappointment, stating that his expectations for effective governance had diminished after this decision.
