Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi visited the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Wednesday. He appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in promoting dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution. The visit took place at the invitation of Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.
Pakistan Mission Highlights Diplomatic Engagement
Ambassador Ahmad briefed Afridi about Pakistan’s activities at the United Nations. He highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, diplomacy, and international peace. Moreover, he explained the mission’s role in promoting dialogue and strengthening global cooperation.
Afridi praised the Pakistan Mission for encouraging understanding among nations. Furthermore, he appreciated its efforts to support peaceful dispute settlement through diplomatic engagement. During the visit, officials also gave Afridi a guided tour of the UN Headquarters. They explained the organization’s work in peace, security, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
Ambassador Ahmad welcomed Afridi and praised his outstanding contributions to Pakistan cricket. Additionally, he recognized Afridi’s humanitarian work through the Shahid Afridi Foundation. He said those welfare initiatives have positively impacted many underserved communities across Pakistan.
Afridi Commends Pakistan’s Global Representation
The ambassador described sports as an effective tool for diplomacy and international understanding. He noted that sports strengthen goodwill and unite people beyond national borders. Therefore, both sides acknowledged the shared value of sports and diplomacy in promoting global peace.
Meanwhile, Afridi thanked Ambassador Ahmad and the Pakistan Mission for their warm hospitality. He said meaningful discussions highlighted Pakistan’s growing role on the global stage. Furthermore, he expressed pride in Pakistan’s dedicated representation at the United Nations.
Afridi represented Pakistan in all three international cricket formats before retiring in 2017. Since then, he has remained active in philanthropy through the Shahid Afridi Foundation.
