MUMBAI: Several leading Bollywood celebrities joined Rani Mukerji and her family to pay their final respects to her mother, Krishna Mukerji, who died on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 75.
Shah Rukh Khan attended the funeral with his wife, Gauri Khan, while filmmaker Karan Johar, actors Anil Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and producer Apoorva Mehta also arrived to support the grieving family.
Videos from the funeral showed Shah Rukh and Gauri arriving together amid heavy security. Meanwhile, Karan Johar, a close friend of Rani, was seen arriving separately to offer his condolences.
Family Requests Privacy Following Krishna Mukerji’s Death
Ayan Mukerji, Rani’s cousin, attended the last rites, while Alia Bhatt and Apoorva Mehta also joined family members and friends at the funeral.
Following Krishna Mukerji’s death, the family issued a statement confirming that she had passed away at 75.
The family expressed gratitude for the love, prayers and support received while requesting privacy during what it described as a period of immense grief.
Furthermore, the statement did not provide details about the cause of her death.
Krishna Mukerji Had a Career as Playback Singer
Krishna Mukerji had also worked in the Indian film industry as a playback singer.
She lent her voice to the song “Idd Ke Din Gale Mil Le Raja” from the 1982 Bollywood film Teesri Aankh.
Krishna was married to filmmaker Ram Mukerji, one of the founders of Mumbai’s Filmalaya Studios.
Ram Mukerji, who died in 2017, was associated with films including Hum Hindustani and Leader, the latter starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala.
Krishna Mukerji’s funeral brought together members of the Mukerji family and prominent figures from Bollywood to pay their final respects.
