Security forces successfully thwarted a major terrorist attack on the Ratta Kulachi Police Training Centre in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday. In a swift counteroperation, three militants were killed before they could inflict large-scale damage.
According to officials, the terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the main gate of the training facility, located in the jurisdiction of Shorkot Police Station. The powerful explosion caused nearby houses to shake, and the sound was heard several kilometres away.
Explosion Followed by Intense Gunfire
Soon after the blast, heavy gunfire erupted between the attackers and security personnel stationed nearby. Police and security reinforcements rushed to the site, quickly engaging the militants.
During the intense exchange of fire, three Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists were eliminated. Authorities stated that the rapid response of the forces prevented further casualties and significant damage inside the facility.
Although there were initial reports suggesting that some attackers might have entered the compound, officials later confirmed the situation was under control.
Area Secured After Joint Operation
District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada confirmed that Dera Station Commander Abubakar and senior officials led the operation on-site. Heavy contingents of police, including the Al-Buraq Force and armoured vehicles, surrounded the entire compound to block escape routes.
Special Services Group (SSG) troops from Chahkan FC Fort were also deployed to assist in securing the area. Their presence ensured a complete clearance operation and maintained stability in the surroundings.
Swift Response Praised
Police officials praised the quick coordination between security agencies, noting that the prompt action saved many lives. The attackers failed to breach the main training area due to the timely intervention of the responding teams.
Authorities highlighted that the incident reflects ongoing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also demonstrates the effectiveness of Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts.
Security Heightened Across the Region
Following the attack, security has been tightened around sensitive installations in Dera Ismail Khan. Additional checkpoints were established, and search operations are ongoing to trace possible facilitators of the attackers.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to protecting law enforcement institutions and maintaining peace in the region.
