Pakistan’s security forces foiled a major terrorist plot in South Waziristan’s Wana during an intelligence-based operation. Officials said forces destroyed an explosives-laden vehicle, preventing a planned suicide attack.
Operation Prevents Major Suicide Attack
According to security sources, the operation took place on Saturday after intelligence identified the threat. Consequently, security personnel intercepted and destroyed the explosives-laden vehicle before it reached its target.
Officials said one terrorist was killed during the operation, while five others sustained injuries. Additionally, security forces destroyed an explosives-filled motorcycle linked to the planned attack.
Authorities stated the timely operation prevented a major tragedy in Wana and nearby areas. They added that the action helped avert significant civilian casualties and protected local residents.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for successfully foiling the attack. He commended their professionalism in neutralising the threat before terrorists could strike.
CTD Kills Wanted Terrorist In DI Khan
Separately, the Counter Terrorism Department conducted another intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan. During the raid, officers killed a wanted terrorist after an exchange of gunfire.
The CTD identified the slain militant as Khalid, also known as Commander. Officials said he was wanted in several cases, including the killing of CTD Constable Muhammad Ali in March 2025.
According to the department, intelligence confirmed Khalid’s presence in the Korai area before the operation. Officers reportedly asked him to surrender several times before he opened fire.
The CTD said personnel returned fire, killing the suspect at the scene. Authorities recovered a 9mm pistol, a hand grenade, and a smartphone for forensic examination.
Officials said Khalid belonged to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s Zakir Kochi Karwan group. Investigators are now working to identify and prosecute his alleged facilitators and support network.
