KARACHI: The city authorities confirmed on Wednesday that Seaview beach and its surrounding areas are open to the public for New Year celebrations, allowing residents and visitors to welcome the New Year at one of Karachi’s most popular recreational spots.
However, police officials have issued strict warnings against dangerous celebratory activities, stressing that law enforcement will take zero tolerance measures to prevent untoward incidents.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South urged revellers to avoid aerial firing, one-wheeling, and other reckless behaviour during celebrations. According to police officials, anyone found resorting to aerial firing will face serious legal consequences, including registration of an attempted murder case. Authorities said these measures aim to protect public safety and prevent tragic accidents that have occurred in previous years.
Meanwhile, police leadership emphasized that Seaview’s accessibility does not mean leniency in enforcement. Officers will actively monitor activities throughout the night, and immediate action will follow any violation of the law. Officials urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure a peaceful start to the New Year.
Heavy police deployment and surveillance measures
To maintain law and order, police have announced an extensive security deployment at Seaview and adjacent localities. SSP South stated that six police platoons will remain stationed in the area, supported by a total force of 2,451 officers and personnel. This deployment includes senior officers, intelligence staff, and specialized units assigned to monitor crowd movement and respond swiftly to emergencies.
Additionally, police have deployed 80 mobile patrol units and 106 motorcycle patrols to ensure continuous surveillance across the beach and surrounding roads. Mounted police units will also patrol the area, providing enhanced visibility and crowd control. Intelligence teams have received instructions to remain vigilant and closely monitor any suspicious activity.
According to officials, hooliganism, disorderly conduct, and aerial firing will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Police officers have been empowered to take immediate action to prevent escalation and ensure that families can safely enjoy the festivities.
Traffic management and enforcement strategy
Alongside security arrangements, police have introduced a comprehensive traffic management plan to minimize congestion near Seaview. Authorities have converted both tracks from Seaview McDonald’s to Khayaban-e-Ittehad into one-way routes to streamline vehicle movement and reduce bottlenecks during peak hours. Traffic police will remain deployed at key intersections to guide motorists and prevent illegal parking.
Police officials reiterated that no unlawful activities will be permitted during New Year’s Eve celebrations. They added that enforcement teams will remain active until late night to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.
As Karachi prepares to welcome the New Year, authorities continue to emphasize that cooperation between citizens and law enforcement remains essential. Officials expressed hope that responsible celebrations and strict security measures will allow the city to enter the New Year peacefully.
