A new wave of speculation has hit the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) Online community after a reported in-game screenshot hinted that Rockstar Games may be introducing an age verification system. The screenshot, which has been widely circulated across social media platforms, displays a message prompting players to confirm their age with an official ID or photo before accessing GTA Online.
The alleged message reads: “You are unable to access GTA Online. Please verify your age with an official ID or photo to continue.” This move, if confirmed, would mark a major policy shift in how Rockstar handles access to its popular online game, especially with regard to younger players.
UK Reportedly First to Receive Rollout Following Online Safety Act
The discussion around this potential feature intensified after well-known GTA leaker Tez2 shared insights suggesting that Rockstar Games is actively working on integrating an age verification system into GTA Online. According to Tez2, the rollout will occur gradually, based on geographic regions, and could restrict access to certain game features—such as phone messages, text chat, and Snapmatic—until players verify their age.
Notably, Tez2 stated that the United Kingdom may be the first region to implement the system, in response to the UK’s recently passed Online Safety Act. The legislation requires online platforms to restrict minors from accessing content intended for adults, a category GTA Online arguably falls into due to its mature themes.
Despite growing online chatter and the alleged screenshot, Rockstar Games has yet to issue an official comment confirming or denying the development. Some fans have also raised concerns about whether a similar system will be implemented in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, which is now slated for release in May 2026, following a delay from its initial Fall 2025 launch window.
