ISLAMABAD: The Wireless and Internet Service Providers Association has raised concerns over the government’s decision to ban unregistered VPNs, urging the development of a fair and balanced regulatory framework.
In its statement, the association underscored the critical role VPNs play in ensuring privacy, secure communication, and online accessibility.
The Association cautioned that blanket restrictions could adversely affect IT exports, financial transactions, and research activities, posing risks to key economic sectors and hindering digital progress.
While supporting the regulated use of VPNs to prevent misuse under national laws, the association stressed that any policy should protect the rights of law-abiding users. It called for fostering an environment that promotes digital freedom, knowledge sharing, and trade.
The association appealed to the government to craft policies that strike a balance between safeguarding national security and advancing Pakistan’s digital economy.
