ISLAMABAD: Social media platforms in Pakistan faced a widespread outage, affecting popular services like X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, as per Netblocks, an internet monitoring service.
Users from major cities like Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad reported difficulties accessing these platforms after 8 pm, accompanied by sluggish internet services. Netblocks swiftly highlighted this as a “nation-scale disruption,” though the cause remains undisclosed.
Till late at night, the social media users kept on guessing the reasons behind social media blackouts in Pakistan.
This incident echoes a recurring trend, marking not the first time social media access has been disrupted in Pakistan.
On May 9, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed nationwide mobile broadband suspension following the interior ministry’s directive.
Netblocks documented limitations on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube access after PTI chief Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
