Meta announces it’s “99% there” in restoring Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp

Hours after Meta’s apps, including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, experienced a global outage, the tech giant announced it was “99% of the way there” in resolving the issue. The company shared this update on X (formerly Twitter), thanking users for their patience and confirming significant progress. “Thanks for bearing with us! We’re 99% of the way there – just doing some last checks. We apologize to those who’ve been affected by the outage,” Meta said.

In Pakistan, Meta’s services, including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, were reported to be down for thousands of users late Wednesday. Meta had issued a brief statement on Facebook, assuring users that they were working to fix the issue as quickly as possible. “We’re aware of some issues accessing WhatsApp. We’re actively working on a solution and starting to see a return to normal for most people. We expect things to be back to normal shortly,” the company posted on X.

According to Downdetector, which tracks real-time website and platform outages, nearly 1,000 users in Pakistan reported problems around 11 p.m. on Wednesday. WhatsApp saw 2,259 outage reports since 10:52 p.m., and Instagram experienced over 1,200 disruptions in the same timeframe. Some users on Facebook and Instagram also reported encountering an error message saying “something went wrong,” and mentioned that Meta was working on a fix.

This outage follows a series of disruptions earlier this year, when Facebook and Instagram were affected by a technical issue that impacted hundreds of thousands of users for over two hours. Another outage in October saw services largely restored within an hour.
