In a bold and strategic move, Elon Musk has announced the imminent release of Grok, an AI chatbot designed exclusively for Premium+ subscribers on the X platform. Musk revealed that the integration of Grok is already in progress, with the feature set to go live next week.
Screenshots shared by app researcher Nima Owji showcased the addition of Grok to X’s online application, indicating a dedicated space for Grok within the social network at twitter.com/i/grok. Owji hinted at a unique user experience, featuring an “Ask Grok” text entry box for users to interact with the AI chatbot.
Leaked screenshots suggest that users not subscribed to the Premium+ tier will receive invitations to upgrade in order to access Grok’s capabilities. This strategic move aims to drive more users toward the Premium+ subscription, which promises an enhanced and entertaining AI interaction.
Grok, initially tested on November 4, is Musk’s response to existing AI chatbots, boasting a “rebellious streak” and a penchant for humor. It aims to stand out by responding to even the most “spicy” queries, a unique feature in the realm of AI systems.
Despite Musk’s efforts to revamp Twitter Blue into X Premium, the Premium+ subscription has faced challenges in meeting expectations. In response, X plans to diversify its Premium service into three tiers, including a $16 per month Premium+ subscription offering an ad-free experience in the For You and Following feeds.
Grok’s introduction to the Premium+ tier is seen as a strategic move by X, especially amid challenges with advertiser loss due to concerns over content and controversies surrounding Musk. The allure of an animated and humor-filled AI experience, coupled with real-time information access, may incentivize users to become Premium+ members.
