The Supreme Court has fixed petitions seeking medical treatment and meetings with Imran Khan for August 18.
A three-member bench will hear the pleas concerning the incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder. Justice Shahid Waheed will head the bench, alongside Justice Naeem Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.
The Registrar’s Office has issued notices to relevant parties and their counsels. Imran Khan has remained in jail since August 2023.
Court To Hear Imran Meeting Pleas
Khan faces several cases involving allegations ranging from corruption to terrorism. His imprisonment followed his removal from power through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
PTI has previously announced a long march seeking Khan’s release according to law. However, party leaders have now focused on securing access to their founder.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said PTI leaders support a September 27 march. He said the party’s provincial and central leadership agreed on the date.
PTI Seeks Access To Party Founder
Afridi said the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan alliance also supports the planned march. He clarified that the demonstration would focus on access to Imran Khan.
According to Afridi, the march would not primarily demand Khan’s release. Instead, PTI wants regular access to its founder while he remains incarcerated.
Earlier, Allama Nasir Abbas said PTI could return to standing committees. He linked the decision to arrangements allowing party leaders to meet Imran Khan.
The Supreme Court’s August 18 hearing could provide further direction on the petitions. The case remains closely watched by PTI supporters and political observers.
