Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met United Arab Emirates Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Riyadh on Tuesday, as tensions surrounding Yemen continue to intensify.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the two leaders reviewed Saudi-UAE relations and discussed developments across the region. Sheikh Mansour also conveyed greetings from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while the Saudi crown prince reciprocated the message.
The meeting came during Sheikh Mansour’s first high-level visit to Saudi Arabia since relations between the two Gulf states deteriorated over Yemen. His trip followed an invitation from Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, who also held separate talks with the Emirati official.
Saudi Arabia Faces Renewed Houthi Pressure
The talks took place amid a sharp escalation in Yemen, where Houthi forces have expanded their control along parts of the Red Sea coast and increased attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. The developments have placed additional pressure on Riyadh and its allies.
Saudi Arabia previously accused the UAE of supporting Yemeni separatist forces whose activities threatened Saudi security. The UAE subsequently withdrew from Yemen, deepening differences between the two countries.
Recent Houthi advances around the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait have added another dimension to the conflict. Control of the area could affect shipping routes and threaten alternative pathways used for Saudi oil exports.
**Regional Cooperation Under Discussion**
Saudi Arabia has sought broader international backing as it responds to the renewed Houthi offensive. However, it remains unclear whether Riyadh has formally requested direct assistance from Abu Dhabi.
The latest meeting signals renewed high-level communication between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, although the two countries have maintained differing positions on Yemen.
The talks also come as the United Nations and regional governments face growing concerns over the conflict’s humanitarian, security and economic consequences.
