Saudi Arabia’s military coalition has destroyed two Houthi ballistic missile launchers in Sanaa, Yemen, following a missile attack targeting Riyadh on Monday. Saudi air defence systems intercepted and destroyed the incoming missile before it could strike the capital.
The operation marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement. Moreover, the latest developments highlight growing security concerns as missile and drone attacks continue threatening Saudi cities and civilian infrastructure.
Missile Interception Foils Attack on Riyadh
Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, confirmed the destruction of the two launchers. He stated that one launcher had fired the ballistic missile towards Riyadh before Saudi forces intercepted it.
Saudi Civil Defence authorities issued an aerial threat warning to residents through mobile phone alerts at approximately 3:42 am local time. However, authorities subsequently informed residents that the immediate danger had passed.
The successful interception prevented the incoming missile from reaching its intended target. Nevertheless, the latest incident demonstrates the continuing threat posed by the Houthis’ ballistic missile capabilities.
Coalition Intensifies Operations Against Houthi Weapons
Following the interception, coalition forces targeted the launch platforms in Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital. Al-Maliki said operations would continue to dismantle the group’s ballistic missile network and reduce its ability to launch further attacks.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has faced repeated missile and drone threats targeting Riyadh and other locations across the kingdom. Recent incidents have also raised concerns about civilian safety, particularly near airports, residential areas and important infrastructure.
The latest military response comes amid intensifying hostilities between the opposing sides. Consequently, regional security remains uncertain as Saudi forces strengthen defensive measures and target facilities associated with Houthi attacks.
The coalition has reiterated its commitment to preventing further missile strikes against Saudi territory. However, continued exchanges between the parties could increase regional tensions and prolong the wider conflict.
