Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has invited the leaders of Kuwait and Bahrain to attend the second GCC-EU Summit. The summit will take place in Saudi Arabia on October 24, 2026. Leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and European Union will attend the high-level meeting.
Saudi Arabia Invites Kuwait and Bahrain
King Salman sent separate invitations to Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Saudi Ambassador to Kuwait Prince Sultan bin Saad bin Khaled delivered the invitation to Kuwait’s emir during a meeting in Kuwait City.
Meanwhile, Saudi Ambassador to Bahrain Naif bin Bandar Al-Sudairi delivered another message to King Hamad at Al-Sakhir Palace. The invitations highlight Saudi Arabia’s preparations for the upcoming summit. They also reflect Riyadh’s engagement with fellow GCC members.
Bahrain Welcomes Saudi Invitation
King Hamad thanked Saudi Arabia for the invitation. He also highlighted the longstanding ties between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The Bahraini king reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
Moreover, he praised King Salman’s efforts to deepen relations between the two countries.
King Hamad also commended Saudi Arabia’s role in promoting cooperation among GCC states.
He expressed hope that the upcoming summit would further strengthen ties between the Gulf states and the European Union.
EU-GCC Summit Set for October
The second EU-GCC Summit will bring together leaders from the six GCC states and the European Union. The GCC includes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the European Council, the EU remains a major economic partner for the Gulf. EU-GCC trade reached €165.6 billion in 2025.
The summit will provide a platform for discussions on economic relations, energy, trade and investment.
Leaders are also expected to discuss other areas of shared interest.
GCC and EU Expand Cooperation
The EU and GCC have maintained formal cooperation since 1989.
Their cooperation covers several areas, including economic relations, climate change, energy, environment and research. The upcoming summit will give both sides an opportunity to discuss their wider strategic partnership.
Meanwhile, Gulf leaders are expected to highlight regional priorities and areas where closer cooperation could benefit both blocs. As preparations continue, Saudi Arabia is engaging with GCC partners ahead of the October gathering.
The participation of Kuwait and Bahrain will add to the regional representation at the summit and support discussions between Gulf and European leaders.
