RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has introduced a simplified family visa system. It makes it easier and potentially less expensive for highly skilled foreign professionals to relocate with their families.
The initiative aims to attract international talent while reducing administrative complications associated with employment and family sponsorship procedures.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior introduced the revised framework in collaboration with the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Human Resources and Social Development.
Under the new regulations, eligible foreign professionals can apply for family entry visas simultaneously with their employment visa applications.
Previously, expatriate workers had to enter Saudi Arabia, obtain residency permits, and complete additional formalities before sponsoring their dependents.
However, the revised system eliminates several procedural requirements, allowing qualifying workers to arrange family relocation before arriving in the Kingdom. Eligible dependents include spouses, sons under 25, and unmarried daughters, subject to applicable conditions.
Furthermore, family members can complete their residency procedures through a streamlined administrative process after entering Saudi Arabia.
The initiative supports Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy and attract international expertise.
Saudi authorities expect the reforms to encourage skilled professionals in healthcare, engineering, technology, and scientific research to pursue employment opportunities in the Kingdom.
The changes also aim to improve family stability and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s competitiveness internationally.
